Coaching Agreement

Coaching is designed to address issues the person coached would like to consider. These include(but are not limited to) achieving short-term or long-term goals, career development, leadership development, spiritual growth, relationship enhancement, stress management, health and fitness, time management, work-life balance, decision-making, retirement, etc.

Coaching is an investment in yourself. This investment will involve goal-setting, reality checks, brainstorming, and producing an action plan. It may also involve the completion of written answers to questions, exercises and accountability, values clarification, agreements to change behaviour and examining lifestyles.

Coaching is most effective when both parties are honest and straightforward in their communication.

If I ever say anything in a session that causes you discomfort, it is important to inform me at the time, so as to save any misunderstandings that could impact on the coaching relationship.

Coaching is a confidential relationship and I agree to keep all information strictly confidential, except in those situations where such confidentiality would violate the law or where clients tell me they are at risk to themselves or other people.

My role as a coach is to assist. I can never guarantee you will meet the goals you set. Achieving goals is dependent on how realistic you are, your commitment, your honesty, determination, resources, and changes that might occur in your health, work, or personal circumstances. Goals may need to be modified or changed.

Coaching is most productive when clients bring a notebook in which they write down their goals, exercises, questions, learning points and things to do. This helps set things clearly in their conscious mind.

Each coaching session will last 45 minutes. The first session will last 1 hour, this gives the client time to acclimatise to the format of the session and deal with any administration.

The frequency of sessions is generally once a week to once a month. In the initial stages most clients will want to talk on a weekly or fortnightly basis. Coaching aims to help a client become more independent through becoming more aware of their own skills, abilities and resources. The coaching can last up to however many sessions needed. Some or all of the coaching may be through telephone/Skype or in-person contact. Either party can terminate the relationship at any time.

A client is obliged to give at least 24 hours notice if they cannot attend a session.

If, for some unforeseen reason, I cannot attend or make an appointment, I will endeavour to give at least 24 hours notice to the client.

Coaching is not therapy, counselling, advice-giving, mental health care, or treatment for substance abuse. Coaching is not intended as a replacement for counselling, psychiatric interventions, treatment for mental illness, recovery from past abuse, professional medical advice, financial assistance, legal counsel, or other professional services. If you are having regular counselling/ psychotherapy, I will need a letter or email from your practitioner to ensure coaching will help and not hinder.
