Domestic Violence is not normal although some people experiencing domestic violence may think differently!
Which Direction recognise that domestic violence can be subjected to men or women or same gender. Some of our Counsellors and key workers are qualified nursery officers who also have experience of working with child issues from the age of 0-18 years. We also have experience of working with families who themselves have had problems in their own families or residing with domestic violence or who may have witness domestic violence who had to flee to refuges and out of their risk areas. .
Some children find it difficult to talk to people such as social services, teachers and in some cases their own parents about what they have seen or been subjected to because they wish to be loyal to the family and they do not want to be disrespectful to their families or talking out of turn.
The counsellors and keyworkers have listened to many children and adults about the problems their presently facing in terms of domestic violence and our priority is to ensure that the family can engage with us in finding the support they need.
We work with families who are vulnerable who have combined drug addiction and domestic violence.
Which Direction Counselling service endeavour to support families by having the individual and or family to complete risk assessment forms which would help in determining the level of risk required. This will help in providing individual support plans in conjunction with the family and where applicable Which Direction workers will sign post the family to relevant organisations which may be able to offer further support. The Counsellors and key workers of Which Direction can also help the family in areas around welfare benefit and entitlements.
We can also help families who have no recourse to public funds with applications to immigration, locating solicitors and possibly locating charities who may help.
